In the Hookah Hub catalog as of August 14, 2026, there are 278 brands and 14,281 flavors — numbers about the catalog, not the whole market. The catalog also holds 42 hookah brands and 487 models, 267 accessory listings, 120 mix recipes, and 63 articles, but this piece is about tobacco only.
The Hookah Hub catalog is what could be gathered and verified, not the entire market, and the numbers below come with three caveats. For 32 brands (836 flavors) the country of origin isn't listed, and another 4 brands (156 flavors) are marked separately as “not specified” — together 992 flavors without established geography, about 7% of the catalog. A line within a brand — how the catalog groups a brand's flavors into series — is specified for 6,501 of 14,281 flavors — for the remaining 7,780 the field in the database simply isn't filled in, which is a data gap, not proof that no line exists. And 1,073 flavors in the catalog are marked as no longer present in brands' current catalogs; the data doesn't reveal why they're marked this way. Keep these three caveats in mind when reading the numbers below.
| Category | Flavors | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Fruity | 4290 | 30.0% |
| Beverage | 2047 | 14.3% |
| Sweet | 1999 | 14.0% |
| Berry | 1950 | 13.7% |
| Other | 1104 | 7.7% |
| Citrus | 1087 | 7.6% |
| Mixed | 721 | 5.0% |
| Mint | 589 | 4.1% |
| Spicy | 344 | 2.4% |
| Floral | 150 | 1.1% |
The fruity category is almost a third of the catalog and almost four times the size of citrus (4,290 versus 1,087). In the list of the most frequent words in flavor names (see the section below), apple, mango, grape, melon, peach, watermelon, pineapple, pear, banana, kiwi, guava, lychee, and pomegranate all appear as separate lines — more than a dozen different fruits. Citrus, in the same list, is really just four fruits: lemon, orange, lime, grapefruit, with different spellings of the same word (“lemon”, “lemony”).
| Strength | Flavors | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Medium | 8057 | 56.4% |
| Light | 4348 | 30.4% |
| Strong | 1844 | 12.9% |
| Ultra-strong | 32 | 0.2% |
More than half the catalog is medium strength, the broadest-reaching category. The ultra-strong marking covers just 32 flavors in the whole catalog — a statistical rarity. What strength grading depends on, and what the markings on the pack actually mean, is covered in a separate piece on hookah tobacco strength.
Across the catalog, the share of strong and ultra-strong flavors averages 13.1%. For floral flavors it's notably higher — 28.7% (43 strong out of 150) — and for spicy and other it's roughly 22–24% (23.8% and 21.8% respectively). For fruity, sweet, and berry categories the share of strong flavors runs below average instead: 10.9%, 11.6%, and 11.9%. The catalog records this pattern but doesn't explain it — for what actually determines a flavor's strength, the separate article on the subject is the better source, not a guess drawn from category distribution.
| Country | Brands | Flavors |
|---|---|---|
| Russia | 141 | 7701 |
| Turkey | 13 | 1479 |
| United States | 19 | 1298 |
| Jordan | 11 | 872 |
| Germany | 31 | 592 |
| UAE | 7 | 546 |
| Ukraine | 3 | 180 |
| India | 1 | 139 |
| Poland | 3 | 80 |
By brand and flavor count, Russia is the most represented country in the catalog — 141 brands and 7,701 flavors, more than half the catalog (53.9%). Next by flavor count come Turkey (1,479), the United States (1,298), and Jordan (872) — with markedly fewer brands: 13, 19, and 11 respectively, meaning each brand there averages more listings than the catalog-wide average of 51.4 flavors per brand. Germany has 31 brands and 592 flavors, noticeably more compact on average: about 19 flavors per brand. Where hookah tobacco is physically made and how geography relates to its characteristics is the subject of a separate article on production geography.
Within large countries, category shares don't always mirror the catalog average. For German brands, the “mixed” category accounts for 169 of 592 flavors — 28.5%, against 5% for the catalog as a whole. For Indian brands, the “spicy” share is 18 of 139 — 12.9%, against 2.4% catalog-wide. Russian brands, by contrast, track the catalog average fairly closely: fruity — 2,161 of 7,701 (28.1% against 30% catalog-wide), beverage — 1,374 (17.8%), sweet — 1,261 (16.4%). What drives this country-level distribution isn't explained by the catalog — it's an observation from the data, not a hypothesis about causes.
Brand catalogs vary widely in size: from 1 flavor to 270. The median is 34 flavors per brand, the mean is 51.4 — the mean sits above the median because a handful of large catalogs pull it up. A quarter of brands (25th percentile) have 19 flavors or fewer; three quarters (75th percentile) have up to 62. The top 10% of brands (90th percentile) start at 120 flavors. Meanwhile, the 10 brands with the largest catalogs account for 15.1% of the whole catalog, the top 20 for 27%, and the top 50 for 49.3%. In other words, half the catalog sits within 50 brands out of 278 (18% of them), and the other half is spread across the remaining 228. How many flavors a brand actually carries, and why that number is hard to eyeball, is covered in a separate article on the site.
The catalog holds 287 “brand + line” combinations — a line splits a brand's flavors into series — that's how the catalog groups a brand's assortment. It's specified for 6,501 of 14,281 flavors, or 45.5%; for the remaining 7,780 the field in the database isn't filled in — a data gap, not evidence that the flavor has no line. What a tobacco line is and why manufacturers introduce them is covered in a separate piece.

Mint is the most frequent word in the catalog's Russian-language flavor names: 313 times — not counting the spelling “mint” (135 occurrences) or the inflected Russian form (158), which are counted separately in the source data. In English-language flavor names, the word “mint” appears 627 times, and the mint category itself covers 589 flavors. These are three different counts — a word in a Russian name, a word in an English name, and the category a flavor is assigned to — and they can't be compared to each other as “more” or “less.” Next in frequency come classic fruits (apple, lemon, mango, grape, melon), then more descriptive words: “bubblegum” (142), “pie” (107), “lemonade” (93), “ice cream” (80) — these point to a finished dessert- or drink-like image of the flavor rather than a raw ingredient. The words “ice” and “icy” (93 and 91) and “double” (85, as in “double apple”) describe a serving style or an intensified classic mix, not a new ingredient. How flavors are actually combined when building a mix is covered in a separate article on mixology basics; which flavors nearly every brand makes, and which almost none do, is its own breakdown.
How many flavors are in the Hookah Hub catalog as of August 2026? 14,281 flavors from 278 brands; 1,073 of them are marked as no longer present in manufacturers' current catalogs.
Which flavor category is the largest in the catalog? Fruity — 4,290 flavors, 30% of the catalog; next come beverage (2,047) and sweet (1,999).
Which strength shows up most often? Medium — 8,057 flavors, 56.4% of the catalog; ultra-strong is rare, just 32 flavors in the whole catalog.
Which country has the most tobacco in the catalog? By flavor and brand count, Russia is the most represented — 141 brands, 7,701 flavors; for 32 brands the country of origin isn't listed.
Does every flavor in the catalog have a line specified? No: a line is specified for 6,501 of 14,281 flavors (45.5%); for the rest the data isn't filled in yet.
The catalog keeps growing, and some of these gaps — country of origin for part of the brands, a line not specified for every flavor — will likely shrink over time. What determines a flavor's strength, where tobacco is physically made, what a tobacco line is, and how to read a brand's catalog size from the numbers are covered in related articles on the site; so are how flavors combine with each other and which flavors nearly every manufacturer makes versus almost none.
